Captain Blood's Revenge

A Bold and Boisterous Pirate Opera for Young Audiences

Commissioned by Glyndebourne

NOMINATED FOR A BRITISH COMPOSERS AWARD IN 2014

The audience become part of the story in this unique and magical work for the whole family. This is a mischievous, fun-filled introduction to the world of opera that combines slapstick humour with moments of operatic high drama. Larger-than-life characters, witty spoken dialogue, audience interaction and full-blooded opera singing combine to explore the universal story of a young family pulling together in stormy seas.

Glyndebourne's premiere production of Captain Blood's Revenge opened at the Brighton Festival in May 2013 and toured the following autumn to Canterbury, Exeter, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent and Glyndebourne.

Into Opera created a new production with performances in Norfolk in July 2023.

The Stage

The packed audience at The Old Market clearly enjoyed themselves. Many having come in pirate garb, they joined enthusiastically in the final chorus, dancing in the aisles. A cut above many other family operas… Captain Blood certainly deserves a future.
